About Our Church - Vision & Planning
click to print this pageprint this page

Los Altos underwent a planning process back in 2001. In that year the planning focused on three areas of emphasis: spiritual formation, community fellowship, and outreach. Ministries and initiatives were started and some continue from that vision plan. The projection dates only went through 2004. We are at a time and place to think about next steps for our church. The vision and planning process will be comprehensive in a few ways:

  1. Will seek to include as many people who are interested in the process - we want as many of the congregation members to participate
  2. Will seek to provide planning for all facets of the church's life: program, ministry, and facilities
  3. Will include an assessment of our current level of ministry and program in the church

The hope is to create a sense of excitement and anticipation about the future direction of the church. The process will include congregation sessions, small group listening sessions, and evaluation tools of existing ministry programs. The vision and planning content will explore major categories related to the church's life rather than thinking along department and committee boundaries. Some of the key areas to be explored will be:

  • Christian spiritual formation
    1. Adults
    2. Youth and young people
    3. Spiritual formation includes: education, worship, spiritual disciplines
  • Community development (inside the walls)
    1. Fellowship and relationship building
    2. Intergenerational efforts
  • Community development (outside the walls)
    1. Outreach to our neighborhood
    2. Outreach to our world
  • Leadership development
    1. Mentoring future leaders
    2. Training and gift assessment
  • Facility improvement priorities
    1. Ordering how to improve our facilities in line with our ministry priorities
    2. Continuing to develop financial strategies to fund these improvements

The end result will give us a common vision and purpose for us as a church.

Proverbs 29:18 is translated, "Without a vision the people perish."
