Rev. Dr. Debbie Chisolm
The Reverend Doctor Debbie Chisolm has been in ministry for 31 years and has served churches in Mississippi and Texas. Twenty-five years were spent serving as Minister of Students and Education, and the past six years, Debbie has been the pastor of First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Lewisville, Texas. "My years of serving on ministerial staffs, have prepared me well to be a pastor." Not only does Debbie have the benefit of years of ministerial experience, she has also prepared educationally.
Dr. Chisolm received a Bachelor of Science in Speech Communication from the University of Southern Mississippi. Whether she's speaking on behalf of community organizations such as the United Way, participating in Toastmater's International, or preaching in the pulpit, Debbie loves public speaking. Her Master's of Religious Education comes from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. "Steve and I attended SWBTS before the seminary was taken over by the conservative arm of the Southern Babtist Convention. When we, and the other leaders of the SBC realized that fundamentalist had obtained total power, we helped to create a moderate convention of churches known as the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship." Rev. Chisolm has just completed her doctoral work at Perkins School of Theology on the campus of Southern Methodist University, and was hooded December 13th. Her doctoral project was, "Experiencing the Real Presence of God in the Church."
Debbie loves all aspects of pastoring, but especially enjoys preaching, teaching, and equipping the church. She is a strong supporter of the priesthood of all believers, and sees equipping and empowering the congregation to be who God has called them to be as a high priority of her ministry. It is easy to see the pastor as someone who is paid to DO the ministry of the church, rather than seeing them as one who is called to minister within the church along side of all who are called to minister. "When every part of the Body does their part, the results are nothing less than Holy."
